Have you made your city safer? Taken actions to protect city inhabitants from hazards? Raised awareness about resilience?

Globally, all cities are vulnerable to severe impacts from a range of shocks and stresses that can be both natural and human made. Today, cities and city inhabitants face increasing and amplified challenges as a result of rapid urbanization, climate change and political instability.

A resilient city is one that assesses, plans and acts to prepare for and respond to all hazards, both sudden and slow-onset, expected or unexpected. By doing so, cities are better able to protect and enhance people’s lives, secure development gains, foster an investible environment and drive positive change.

THE GLOBAL REPORT ON URBAN RESILIENCE

Raising awareness about urban resilience is the first step to increasing engagement in resilient actions. A strong component of raising awareness is telling stories of real cities taking concrete action to protect their infrastructure, functionality and inhabitants. UN-Habitat, ICLEI, and C40 Cities are partnering to increase visibility at key global events throughout 2019/2020, and develop the world’s premier Global Report on Urban Resilience, building on the “Trends in Urban Resilience” flagship report (2017), the “Data Speak Louder than Words” report (2018), self-reported data from cities and regions on the unified ICLEI/CDP reporting system (https://www.cdp.net/en), and the partner networks’ (ICLEI and C40) global urban resilience work.
